Summer season means not only hot air and sweating, but also the boiling water coming out of the taps! Think, you get upset with the heat of the day and go to the bathroom in the hope of a cold shower, and as soon as you open the tap, the boiling water started falling on you. This is a problem that occurs in almost every house in India, where the water tank is placed on the roof.

Throughout the day, the tank placed on your roof becomes like a pressure cooker and its water becomes very hot. But the good news is that to get rid of this problem, you do not have to put any rocket science. With some very simple, cheap and smart methods you can keep your tank cool.

1. The easiest and science method: ‘white color’
This is the cheapest and effective remedy. As we wear white or light colored clothes in summer so that the heat is less, the same principle also works on your tank. Black or dark colored tank absorbs sunlight, causing water to heat.

• What to do: Bring a good quality white waterproof paint from the market and paint your tank completely white from outside. The white color returns the heat of the sun, so that the tank does not heat up.

2. Our evergreen desi jugaad: jute sack or poppy
This is the tried recipe of our grandfather-Nana’s time, which still does amazing work.

• What to do: Take old jute sacks (which causes grains or sugar) or khas sack and wrap them well around your tank and tie it with a rope. Wet these sacks once or twice a day. When the air collides with wet sacks, water will become steam and the tank will remain cold from inside.

If you can spend a little, it is a permanent solution. Just as we use umbrellas to avoid sunlight, just give your tank a umbrella.

• What to do: Get a small shed or cover above the tank. You can also use bamboo, tin sheet or green shed net found in the market nowadays. This will prevent direct sunlight from falling on the tank.

4. Modern and Smart method: Insulation Cover
Nowadays, readymade cover made for water tanks is also available in the market.

• What to do: These covers are of multi-layred, which contains foam or insulation material inside which prevents the heat from entering. They just have to offer it to the tank. This is an easy and clean method.
