Children will not be able to use social media in the US state of Florida. The US state Florida has banned children under 14 years of age from using social media platforms. Governor Ron DeSantis has approved this law. This will be implemented from next year i.e. 2025. The move is to protect children from online threats to their mental health.
On Monday (March 25), state Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a law that says 14- to 15-year-olds will also need written parental consent to use social media. Companies have been asked to delete social media accounts of children below 14 years of age. Social media platforms must shut down all social media accounts that do not have parental consent.
According to the law, all social media platforms have been asked to activate their accounts only after age verification. If a company does not delete the social media accounts of children below 14 years of age, then it will have to pay a compensation of 10 thousand dollars to the child concerned. Apart from this, a fine of up to 50 thousand dollars can also be imposed on the company.
