Now Aadhaar, PAN and Voter ID will be updated from a single portal; Government’s ‘one-stop portal’ will end the problem of visiting different offices. Single Portal To Update Aadhaar PAN Voter ID

For citizens living in India, updating the name, address or mobile number in their key identity cards—like Aadhaar, PAN card, Voter ID (EPIC) and Driving License (DL)—often proves to be a long and tedious process. At present, if a person changes his house or shifts the city, he has to visit different portals of UIDAI, Income Tax Department, Election Commission (ECI) and Transport Department (Sarathi Parivahan) and fill forms and upload documents again and again. To eliminate this complexity and promote ‘ease of living’, the government is rapidly working on an integrated ‘one-stop national portal’ and API-based digital framework, through which information in all linked documents can be automatically updated by applying at one place.

This integrated system is based on the secure architecture of ‘Digital India’ and ‘India Stack’.

• One-Time Request Model: When a citizen logins to this central portal or UMANG and DigiLocker enabled platform and submits a request for change in his/her address or demographic data through authentication (OTP/biometric), the system will process this request with the registered identifiers.

• Interconnected Databases (Interoperability): Once Aadhaar authentication and supporting address proof are verified, the portal will push authorized notifications and updated data to the Income Tax Department (PAN database), Election Commission (Voter List) and Ministry of Road Transport (Driving License database) through the backend API.

• Consent-Based Architecture: Digital consent will be taken from the citizen as to which documents he wants to sync the new address, so that complete compliance with data privacy and Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) rules can be ensured.

The implementation of this integrated system will provide many major benefits to the general public:

• Saving time and money: The need to pay different fees on different portals of each department, fill forms repeatedly and wait for weeks will be eliminated.

• Ending Document Mismatch Problem: Many times it happens that there is a new address in Aadhaar but the old address remains recorded in PAN or Voter ID. Due to this, there are hurdles in bank loan, passport verification or financial KYC. Through a single portal, data will remain the same everywhere.

• Easy e-KYC for Banks and Financial Institutions: Refreshing KYC in bank accounts, mutual funds, insurance policies and demat accounts simultaneously will become very easy.

Government-run IT agencies and line ministries are currently testing database integration and cyber security protocols.

• Currently Available Feature: In the present system, digital facility of updating address in PAN card through Aadhaar based e-KYC is available on the portal of Income Tax Department (Protean / NSDL). Similarly, changes are being made on ECI’s ‘Voters Services Portal’ (voters.eci.gov.in) and transport portal through different Form 8 and online services.

• Full rollout timeline: This automated single-window system linking all major government databases together is being implemented in a phased manner, once the beta trial is completed, it will be officially made live for all citizens of the country.

• Keep mobile number active: All digital updates and authentication happen through OTP, so it is mandatory to have your active mobile number linked to your identity cards.

• Valid Address Proof: Keep clear digital copies of valid documents like electricity bill, bank passbook, rent agreement or domicile certificate with you.

• Avoid fake websites and fraud links: Do any kind of update only through official government portals (.gov.in or .nic.in) or official mobile apps.
