Jaipur, July 7 (HS). Drinking water in Rajasthan cannot be used for any purpose other than domestic purposes. People will not be able to wash their vehicles with the water supplied to their homes, nor will they be able to use it for any construction. Domestic water cannot be used in restaurants either. If anyone wastes water or if there is leakage in the house, then a fine of one thousand rupees will be imposed in such a situation.
Regarding this, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) has issued a circular to the officials on July 5. Under this, non-domestic use of water has been banned. PHED is now preparing to take strict action against people wasting water in the state. Along with collecting the fine, the water connection can also be cut. Along with this, if there is water leakage somewhere in the house, action can be taken against the owner. Under this, a fine of Rs 1,000 will be imposed. Even after this, if the wastage of water does not stop, a fine of up to Rs 50 can be imposed every day. Still, if there is no improvement, there is a provision of cutting the connection and punishment.
For the past few days, PHED officials had received information about commercial use of domestic water. A large number of people were using domestic water for marriage gardens, companies and commercial purposes. After this circular, the department will now conduct raids. Preparations have been started to take action against people using domestic water for commercial purposes.
PHED's Administrative Secretary Samit Sharma said that we have decided to run a campaign to stop the wastage of water. Under this, all the people across the state who are using domestic water for commercial activities will be issued notices and fined under the Rajasthan Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation Act 1979. If even after this they do not improve their behavior, their water connection will be disconnected. He said that there are two types of water connections – domestic and commercial. The rate of commercial connection is four times more than domestic connection.
