Mumbai: The successful web series 'Mirzapur' on OTT platform will now be released as a film in theaters in 2026. Creator Farhan Akhtar made this announcement. This is a new experiment amidst the ongoing debate about the loss caused to films after the arrival of OTT series in India, because the web series till now limited to OTT platform will now be transformed into a film. Ultimately this experiment will prove that theater is a bigger and more effective medium than OTT.
The actors of this series, Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Faisal, Divyedu Sharma and Abhishek Banerjee are going to reprise their iconic characters.
Mirzapur's original producer Punit Krishna will also be the writer of this film. Also, this film has been directed by Gurumeet who has also directed three parts of the series.
When this series came, the era of OTT series was just emerging in India. At that time, the audience was shocked to see scenes of intense violence and vulgar depiction in this series. However, apparently a Censor Board certificate is mandatory for any film to be released in India. Therefore, it is expected that violence and profanity will be removed from the film like the original series.
It is noteworthy that the first part of this web series was released in 2018. After this, the second season was streamed on OTT in 2020 and the third season in 2024. Now the film from this web series will be released in 2026.
