Miami, February 22 (HS). Serbia's star tennis player Novak Djokovic is set to return to the Miami Open next month after a gap of five years due to COVID-19 and US travel restrictions.
World No. 1 Djokovic holds the record for six Miami Open titles, but he could not even attempt to increase that number in recent years because the United States did not allow unvaccinated foreigners to enter the country .
On Wednesday, tournament organizers released the list of players taking part in the tournament, which also includes defending champion Daniil Medvedev and 2023 finalist Jannik Sinner.
Other players include Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, Americans Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul, Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton.
In the women's category, world No. 1 Iga Swiatek will be looking for a second Miami Open title, having previously won the title in 2022 when she defeated four-time Grand Slam winner Naomi Osaka in the final.
World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka, who retained her Australian Open title without losing a set this year, Florida native Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula and Madison Keys will also feature in the tournament.
Reigning women's champion Petra Kvitova is not playing this year, having announced her pregnancy at the beginning of the year. This year's Miami Open will be held from March 17 to 31.
