Notice to Delhi Police on plea seeking preservation of CCTV footage

New Delhi, 02 August (HS). Delhi's Tis Hazari Court has issued a notice to Delhi Police on a petition seeking preservation of CCTV footage of the incident and the surrounding area related to the death of students at Rau IAS Study Circle. Judicial Magistrate First Class Vinod Kumar ordered the next hearing on August 7.

The petition has been filed by the accused in this case and Thar driver Manuj Kathuria. Lawyers RK Tripathi and Sahil Ahuja, appearing on behalf of the petitioner, said that CCTV footage of one hour before the death of the students and half an hour after the incident should be preserved, so that it can help in identifying the culprits. It is noteworthy that Manuj Kathuria was granted bail by the Sessions Court on August 1. Kathuria's bail plea was rejected by the Judicial Magistrate on July 31.

On July 29, Delhi Police arrested four co-owners of Rau IAS Study Circle and the Thar driver. Seven accused have been arrested in this case. In this case, late on July 28, coaching owner Abhishek Gupta and coordinator Deshpal Singh were sent to 14 days judicial custody. Apart from these accused, the police have registered a case under various sections of culpable homicide against the building management, corporation employees who look after the system and other accused. Delhi Police has registered a case under sections 105, 106 (1), 115 (2), 3 (5) of the Indian Penal Code.

It is noteworthy that the library is located in the basement of Rau IAS Study Circle. Students preparing for UPSC were studying in this library. Three students studying in this basement got trapped in the sudden flood and died. The video of this accident is being shared on social media.
