Notice to central government on demand to allot land for office to Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi

New Delhi, May 14 (HS). Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government while hearing the demand of allotting land for office to Aam Aadmi Party. The bench of Justice Subramaniam Prasad directed the Central Government to present its stand by May 15.

During the hearing, it was said on behalf of Aam Aadmi Party that it is a nationally recognized political party. As per Government of India guidelines, national parties are entitled to get land for office in Delhi. All recognized parties have got land in Delhi to run their offices. Aam Aadmi Party has said that the Supreme Court has ordered to vacate its Rouse Avenue office by June 15. In such a situation, an order should be issued to allot him an alternative land for his office.

Aam Aadmi Party has said that it has the right to get one thousand square meters of land in Delhi for office. The party had applied for allotment of land only six months after it got the status of a nationally recognized party, but the central government had rejected its application saying there was no vacant land. This behavior of the Center is because the petitioner is an opposition party. The party says that it should be allotted land in Delhi for its office.
