The Income Tax Department has issued notices to many taxpayers who have filed Income Tax Returns (ITR) correctly, stating that they have filed wrong ITR. Despite filing ITR correctly, taxpayers got confused by such notices from the Income Tax (IT) department.

However, later the IT department realized its mistake and withdrew such notices and expressed regret. Due to which the affected taxpayers got relief. However, experts say that such functioning of the Income Tax Department is gross negligence and false tax notices are a matter of concern. This entire incident has made the Income Tax Department a laughing stock. However, there may be some taxpayers who have filed ITR again in lieu of such wrong notice from the Income Tax Department. Because, not every taxpayer has the time, resources or desire to fight the government or the IT department for wrong notices.

On November 29, 2024, the Income Tax Department issued notices to several taxpayers for faulty ITRs. After realizing its mistake, the IT department on December 5 said that the return notices containing the error were issued on November 29, 2024. It was pointed out that although the income under section 44AD has been offered, the total receipts exceed Rs 2 crore and the balance sheet and profit and loss account have not been filed and the accounts have not been audited. Taxpayers please ignore such notices, we regret such notices. ITRs already filed by taxpayers are being processed. So wait for the notification of the result of this proceeding. It is worth noting that taxpayers whose total receipts or turnover does not exceed Rs 2 crore can file ITR under section 44AD.
