Khunti, 30 April (Hindustan Reporter) NOTA means right to reject. During elections, every voter has the right to vote in favor of his favorite candidate. If there is no one of his/her choice in the list of candidates, he/she can opt for NOTA. In the year 2013, voters got this right under the Right to Reject. Since 2014 Lok Sabha elections, NOTA button has also been included in the list of candidates in EVM. This button will be used for the third time in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
NOTA got the most votes after BJP and Congress in the 2019 elections.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the election results of Khunti parliamentary seat surprised everyone. Here in a close contest, BJP candidate Arjun Munda won the election by only 1445 votes. Congress's Kalicharan Munda stood second. NOTA stood third with 21 thousand 245 votes. That means, NOTA had got much more votes than the margin of victory or defeat. The victory or defeat was decided by a margin of less than one percent vote. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the winning candidate from Khunti reserved seat, Arjun Munda of BJP, got 3826380 votes, while Kalicharan Munda of Congress got 381193 votes. NOTA was in third place, which had secured 21245 votes. Independent candidate Meenakshi Munda was at fourth place, who had obtained 10989 votes. JHKP's Ajay Topno KE Ajay Topno 8838 votes, BSP's Indumati Devi 7663, Independent Sukhram Hrenge 5255, Independent Niran Hrenzco 4560, RSGP's Civil Kandulna 3895 HBP's Avnishi Munu to Avnishi Munu of 2373 ANP and BMSM's Neel Justin Back Also got 1864 votes.
This time seven candidates are trying their luck
Seven independent candidates are trying their luck from Khunti parliamentary seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Although 16 candidates had filed nomination papers, nine candidates were eliminated during scrutiny. This time also an interesting contest will be seen in this parliamentary seat. Both BJP and Congress have again fielded the same old rivals. BJP candidate Arjun Munda and Congress's Kalicharan Munda are face to face again. Jharkhand Party has placed its bet on Aparna Hans. The contest has become more interesting with the entry of Aparna Hans and independent Basant Kumar Longa into the electoral fray. The seven candidates in the fray include Arjun Munda from BJP, Kalicharan Munda from Congress, Savitri Devi from Bahujan Samaj Party, Aparna Hans from Jharkhand Party, Bharat Adivasi Party's Babita Kachhap, independent Pastor Sanjay Kumar Tirkey and Basant Kumar Longa are included.
