Not Rohit Sharma, this player can become the captain of Team India in the series against Sri Lanka

Team India is currently on a tour of Zimbabwe. Where a 5-match T20 series is being played under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. The Indian team will play the last match of this tour on July 15. After this, Team India will tour Sri Lanka. Team India can go on this tour with a new coach and a new captain. Before the Sri Lanka tour, former veteran Gautam Gambhir can be declared the new head coach of Team India.

Rohit Sharma on a long break

After winning the T20 World Cup 2024 title, Rohit Sharma has now gone on a long leave. In such a situation, the chances of him playing the ODI series on the Sri Lanka tour are also being said to be very low. Apart from Rohit, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah can be rested in this tour. India has to play both ODI and T20 series against Sri Lanka at the end of July. Rohit and Virat have already retired from T20. Now the names of two players are being discussed for the captaincy of Team India in the ODI series.

KL Rahul or Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya can captain Team India in the T20 series on the Sri Lanka tour. Apart from this, Hardik can also be considered as the captain for the ODI series, but KL Rahul is also in it. BCCI cannot ignore KL Rahul either. KL Rahul has been away from the cricket field since IPL 2024, he did not even get a chance in the team for the T20 World Cup 2024. But now Rahul can return to the team from the Sri Lanka tour. KL Rahul was made the captain of the team in the ODI series played against South Africa. In such a situation, Rahul can once again be seen as the captain.

A BCCI source gave this information

A BCCI source said that Rohit and Virat themselves will indicate their return to the ODI team. Before the Champions Trophy, Team India has to play a 3-match ODI series with England, which is enough for them. Both the players will focus more on Test matches in the next few months, as Team India has to play 10 Test matches from September to January 2025.
