casting couch: 10th July 2017 was an unforgettable day for the Kerala film industry. The kidnapping and rape of an actress in a car created a stir. After this, many complaints of crimes against women came in the Malayalam film industry.
Subsequently in 2018, the state government formed a committee headed by retired judge Hema to investigate gender issues faced by women in the Kerala film industry. The committee probing the matter submitted a 233-page report with documents, audio and video evidence to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in December 2019. However, due to some reasons, the government did not publish this report.
In this case, the Kerala government released the Hema Committee report on the 19th. It said that female artists are sexually harassed for opportunities in Malayalam cinema. The report revealed that not only women, but men are also victims of sexual harassment.
Now there is a heated debate going on in the Kerala film industry on this issue. Statements are coming in favor and against this report. At this time actress Parvati Menon gave her opinion on the Hema Committee report and said that it is not acceptable to say on the basis of the comments made in the report that all the women in the film industry have reconciled.
