North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched a demonstration of a special suicide drone designed to attack targets. Meanwhile, Kim vowed to strengthen his military's combat readiness and promote the development of such weapons, state media reported on Monday.
The Growing Nuclear Threat of North Korea
According to state media, the test was conducted on Saturday. The test comes at a time when the US and South Korean armies are conducting large-scale exercises to strengthen joint capabilities. The aim of this exercise is to defend against the growing nuclear threat from North Korea. Both countries said that the Ulchi Freedom Shield exercise, which will continue till Thursday, aims to enhance their preparedness against various threats from North Korea.
Amphibious landing exercise commenced
The US and South Korea also launched a separate amphibious landing exercise on Monday involving dozens of aircraft from their militaries, including American F-35 fighter jets and the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer. South Korea's military said the 'Ssangyong exercise', which will run until September 7, is aimed at enhancing interoperability in warfare.
The test involved different types of drones
North Korea's official Korean Central News Agency said Saturday's test involved different types of drones designed to fly different distances to attack enemy targets on land and sea. The drones flew different paths before hitting the targets with precision, it said. Lee Chang-hyun, spokesman for the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the South Korean military was closely monitoring North Korea's drone capabilities.
