Mumbai: A Pune court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange in a 2013 robbery case as he did not appear in court. Jarange began a hunger strike in his village in Jalna district from July 20 over Maratha reservation. After a non-bailable warrant was issued against him on May 31, the warrant was cancelled after he proved his presence in court, though the court also imposed a fine of Rs 500 on him. The case was scheduled to be heard before a judicial magistrate on Tuesday, but Jarange could not appear as he was on a fast, his lawyer told the court on Tuesday.
His lawyer said, “We will present him before the court and get the warrant cancelled.” In 2013, a case of cheating and breach of trust was registered against Jaranghe and three others.
Jarange and co-accused approached the complainant in 2012. The price for six shows of Shambhuraj in Jalna was fixed at Rs 30 lakh. Rs 16 lakh was paid and a complaint was lodged when there was a dispute over the remaining amount. The court directed the police to register a case.
Jarangay has got anticipatory bail in the 2013 case. The police filed a chargesheet but Jarangay was not issued summons. In January 2024, the court intervened in the case and issued two summons to him.
