No relief from cold, fog and cold wave wreak havoc in many states

The cold wave will continue in India. According to the latest report of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), fog, rain and cold wave conditions will persist in many parts of the country. While most of the northeastern states may receive rain, there are also signs of snowfall or rain in parts of northwest India. There is a possibility of further decline in the minimum temperature.

How will the weather be today?

According to the IMD report, dense fog may occur in many parts of North India during the morning and evening hours between January 8 and 10.

  • Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh: Dense fog likely from January 8 to 10.
  • Bihar and Himachal Pradesh: Dense fog till January 11.
  • Jharkhand and Odisha: Fog likely to persist till January 9.
  • Northeast India (Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura): Fog may remain from 9 to 12 January.

Apart from this, cold wave outbreak will also continue:

  • Himachal Pradesh: Effect of cold wave till January 9.
  • West Rajasthan: Cold wave warning on January 8.
  • Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and North Madhya Pradesh: Cold day conditions till January 8.
  • Uttar Pradesh: Cold day effect till January 9.

Forecast of rain and snowfall

  • There may be rain in the plains of northwest India between January 10 and 12.
  • There is a possibility of snowfall in the hilly areas, which will further increase the cold.

When will we get relief from cold?

IMD has said in its latest update that the minimum temperature in North-West and Central India may fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours. However, after this the temperature will gradually improve:

  • North West and Central India: Temperature may increase by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius.
  • East India: Temperature may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in 24 hours.
  • Maharashtra: Minimum temperature likely to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius, then rise by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Pay attention to IMD’s warning

The Meteorological Department has advised the state administration and citizens to remain alert. Dense fog may increase the risk of road accidents. Also, to protect yourself from cold wave, it has been advised to wear adequate warm clothes and spend minimum time outside.
