The decision on the regular bail plea of CM Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the money laundering case related to the alleged scam in Delhi Excise Policy, has now been postponed till June 19. This plea was heard in Rouse Avenue Court today on Friday. During the hearing, Kejriwal made several demands related to relief, on which the investigating agency sought more time to respond. On this, the court has postponed the hearing till June 19.
Kejriwal placed two main demands in the court
During the hearing, N Hariharan appeared in the court on behalf of CM Kejriwal. He told the court that Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition seeking some relief. There are two major demands. First, we are requesting the jail authorities to allow Sunita Kejriwal to attend Kejriwal's medical examination through video conferencing. Second, we also want to present our point when the board sits. The court sought time to respond to these demands of Kejriwal.
What did the court say?
During the hearing, the court said that the accused is in judicial custody, not the ED. If he needs any relief, then you have no role in it. Regarding this, the ED said that we are saying that a report should be sought from the jail. The jail superintendent should be asked whether the jail officials have any problem with video conferencing. The court told the ED that we will seek an answer from the jail. But you have no role in this.
The court will seek answers from the jail authorities
The ED counsel told the court that some concerns were raised over the food consumed by Kejriwal and the court had constituted a medical board on April 22. This request had not been made by him till now. Therefore, if we are allowed to file a short reply, there will be no major problem. The court said that we will seek a reply from the jail authorities. The accused is in judicial custody. The bail hearing will be held on June 19.
Kejriwal in jail till June 19
It is worth noting that Kejriwal was arrested on 21 March in the money laundering case. After interim bail, Kejriwal surrendered on 2 June. On 5 June, the court refused to grant interim bail to Kejriwal. The minister had sought interim bail for 7 days on health grounds, but the court rejected it. Later on 7 June, during the hearing on the regular bail application in Rouse Avenue Court, the ED opposed the grant of bail.
