The central government on Friday said it has not yet received any request from the US authorities regarding the arrest warrant issued against businessman Gautam Adani on bribery charges.
This comment of the Indian government comes amid reports of the US Justice Department registering a case against Gautam Adani. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement that the government has no role in the legal proceedings related to entities linked to Adani in the United States.
A Foreign Ministry spokesperson said during a press briefing that this is a legal matter involving a private firm and individual and the US Justice Department. He further said that established procedures and legal avenues will be followed in such cases. It is noteworthy that for any kind of legal action in India, American officials will have to inform the Home Ministry of India. Why shouldn’t there be an arrest warrant? After receiving the information, the Home Ministry may direct the concerned federal agencies to act on the request. The case against Gautam Adani in the US includes allegations of paying bribes to win solar power contracts in India and misleading investors in the US.
