New Delhi: The Supreme Court has rejected the review petition regarding the SC, ST reservation decision and has upheld the decision. A seven-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that there is no error in our decision on SC-ST reservation and hence there is no need for review. On August 1, the Supreme Court had given its verdict on reservation and allowed state governments to change the SC-ST reservation quota. Even in SC, the Supreme Court allowed quotas in reservation for those who are most disadvantaged socially, economically or educationally. However, the Supreme Court made it clear that no state government can implement this decision merely on the basis of conjecture, there must be specific data for implementation. Controversy is also being seen regarding this decision. In such a situation, the review petition in the Supreme Court has been canceled.
The Supreme Court had given a decision giving relief to the states regarding royalty collection on mining and minerals, a review petition was also filed regarding this decision. However, this review petition was also rejected by the Supreme Court. The Central Government argued in its review petition that there are some errors in the Supreme Court decision. While giving its verdict on August 14, the Supreme Court had said that from April 1, 2005, states will be able to collect royalty on mining and minerals from the mining companies and the central government. After which the Supreme Court had filed a review petition in this case which has been rejected.
