No case of HMPV in Maharashtra, but government advisory issued

Mumbai – Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abinkar said there is no need to worry after two cases of HMPV (Human Meta Pneumo Virus), also known as Chinese virus, were reported in Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. Also said that no case has been reported so far in Mumbai. People can exercise normal caution but there is no need to panic.

Giving information that the situation regarding HMPV virus will be reviewed in the meeting to be held in the ministry on Wednesday, the Health Minister said that we have given guidelines as to how citizens should take precautions.

Guidelines issued by the Maharashtra Health Department recommend covering your nose with a handkerchief or handkerchief while sneezing, covering your mouth with a handkerchief when coughing, washing hands with soap and using alcohol-based sanitizers.

According to information provided by the Directorate of Health Services, this virus first appeared in the Netherlands in 2001. It is a common respiratory virus that affects the upper part of the respiratory tract (upper respiratory tract). This virus becomes active in winter and early summer. HMPV is a virus similar to respiratory sinusitis virus (RSV) and influenza.

Stating that no case of HMPV has been reported in Maharashtra so far, the state health department said that in the analysis conducted by our department, there has been no significant change in the cases of diseases related to the respiratory system between 2023 and 2024. However, as a precautionary measure, people have been advised to exercise caution. It is advisable to follow these guidelines.
