News India Live, Digital Desk: Amidst the ongoing tussle within NDA regarding liquor ban law in Bihar AIMIM (All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen) has defended Nitish Kumar. This is very interesting because the law on which allies like Jitan Ram Manjhi and Upendra Kushwaha are raising questions, Owaisi’s party has said is right in social interest.

1. Owaisi’s party’s stance (AIMIM Support)

Bihar State President and MLA of AIMIM Akhtarul Iman Has clarified that his party is in favor of prohibition.

logic: He said that alcohol is a social evil and it hurts poor families the most. However, he raised questions about corruption in the ‘implementation’ of the law, but fundamentally justified prohibition.

Support to Nitish: At a time when some leaders of BJP and other allies are cornering Nitish Kumar, this stand of Owaisi’s party is being seen as a ‘moral victory’ for the Chief Minister.

2. Our own people have opened the front (Conflict in NDA)

The problem for Nitish Kumar is not his external enemies but his alliance partners:

Jitan Ram Manjhi (HAM): Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has said many times that the poor are being harassed in the name of prohibition and limited relaxation should be given like the Gujarat model.

Upendra Kushwaha (RLM): His party leaders also believe that liquor ban is only on paper and the state is suffering huge loss of revenue due to it.

BJP’s stance: Some BJP leaders have been demanding review of this law in hushed tones, which clearly reflects the differences within the government.

3. Nitish Kumar’s resolution

Despite all the pressures, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is firm on his decision. He has made it clear that prohibition has brought positive changes in the lives of women and children and it will not be taken back at any cost.

Political meaning:

Experts believe that this support of Owaisi’s party could also be a strategy to make inroads among Muslim voters, because alcohol is considered prohibited in Islam. At the same time, opposition from allies may be a part of ‘pressure tactics’ to coordinate seats and increase their importance in the coming elections.
