News India Live, Digital Desk: Presented by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman union budget 2026 But the opposition has attacked hard. Senior Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram Shashi Tharoor Has termed this budget as completely ‘underwhelming’. Unemployment have failed to resolve.
‘Miss the ball’: Tharoor’s crickety jibe
Reacting after the budget speech, Shashi Tharoor said, “I don’t know whether she was stumped or not, but it seems she has missed the ball completely.” Tharoor believes that the budget lacked vision and did not show any concrete plan to put money in the pockets of the common man.
Ignoring the common man: Tharoor said that today the ‘common man’ of the country is burdened with debt and credit card debt is continuously increasing, but no relief was given to him in the budget.
Fiscal Deficit: Referring to former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, he said that once the target was set at 3.5%, but today the government is patting itself on the back on much higher figures.
Unemployment: The biggest ‘unanswered question’
Shashi Tharoor said that the biggest shortcoming of the budget was not paying attention to unemployment. He gave some surprising examples:
PhD holders in the line of peon: Tharoor said that today thousands of applications come for a post of peon or head constable in the Railways, including youth holding graduates and PhD degrees. This shows the dire situation of employment in the country.
Roadmap for employment generation missing: He alleged that in the entire budget speech there was no mention of how new jobs would be created in the coming times. Only heavy words like ‘youth power’ have been used, but there is nothing on the ground.
Kerala was again ignored
Being an MP from Kerala, Tharoor also expressed deep displeasure over the neglect of the state. He said:
Waiting for AIIMS: Kerala was promised AIIMS about 15 years ago, which has not become a reality till date.
coastal erosion: Tharoor said that Mother India’s land is being lost due to coastal erosion caused by the sea, but the government does not consider it as serious as China’s encroachment and did not provide any funds for it in the budget.
