Nine devotees died due to coming in contact with current in Vaishali

Patna/Vaishali, 05 August (HS). 9 Kanwariyas, who were carrying water from the Ganga river at Pahelaja Ghat in Vaishali district of Bihar, died after coming in contact with the current. The incident took place late Sunday evening in Sultanpur village (in front of Naiper) of Industrial Police Station area, where 8 Kanwariyas died on the spot after coming in contact with a high-voltage wire, while one died during treatment. Five people have suffered severe burn injuries.

According to the police, the group of Kanwariyas had set out to collect Gangajal from Pahelaja Ghat and to perform Jalabhishek of Baba Hariharnath. It is said that the procession of Kanwariyas must have moved about 500 meters away from the village when the accident happened. A DJ and sound system was set up on a trolley, which came in contact with an 11 thousand volt wire. Due to this, 11 thousand volt current spread in the entire trolley and the Kanwariyas came under its grip. 8 Kanwariyas died due to electric shock, while five were seriously injured due to burns. They are being treated. It is being said that their condition also remains critical. The deceased Kanwariyas in the accident are residents of Jethui village.

In this case, Hajipur SDPO Om Prakash said that while the DJ was being tied on top of the trolley, it came in contact with an 11000 volt wire, due to which current spread in the trolley and eight people died on the spot. More than five of the people who got burnt in this accident are serious. Every year a group of Kanwariyas collect water from Pahelaja Ghat and go to perform Jalabhishek on Baba Hariharnath.

After the incident, the angry people said that as soon as the DJ touched the wire and current spread, a call was made to the electricity department, but the phone was not picked up. If the phone had been picked up on time, the youths who were struck by the current could have been saved. After the accident, the angry people created a ruckus demanding the officers and workers of the electricity department to be called to the spot and blocked the Hajipur-Jandaha road. Police from five police stations and fire brigade were present at the spot. At around 1:45 AM, after much persuasion, the villagers agreed and then all the eight bodies were taken to the Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Many bodies were badly burnt.

The deceased in the incident have been identified as Ravi Kumar, son of Dharmendra Paswan, Raja Kumar, son of late Lala Das, Naveen Kumar, son of late Fudena Paswan, Amresh Kumar, son of Sanoj Bhagat, Ashok Kumar, son of Mantu Paswan, Chandan Kumar, son of Chandeshwar Paswan, Kalu Kumar, son of Parmeshwar Paswan, Ashi Kumar, son of Mintu Paswan, Amod Kumar, son of Devi Lal. All the deceased were residents of Sultanpur and Jaduwa.

The electricity department has announced that the families of the deceased will be given a compensation of Rs four lakh each.
