The court of Additional District Judge-3 Saroj Kumar Yadav sentenced nine accused, including two retired clerks of the department, to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on all of them. Last Thursday, the court had declared all the accused guilty.
Anang Pal alias Anand Pal, a resident of Govind Nagar in the Katghar police station area of the metropolis, had lodged a case in Civil Lines on 21 September 2015. He had said that his son Pushpendra was returning home from coaching. Three miscreants on a bike shot Pushpendra dead near Fawwara Chowk. In this case, the police arrested Shahjad and Shadab and solved the murder case. During police interrogation, the accused had confessed that Chunni Lal and Mukund Lal, clerks working in the Women Welfare Department, had got the murder done by giving a contract of Rs. 3 lakh.
Apart from the two clerks, Jamil alias Khalil, Johar, Salman, Asif, Shahzad, Shadab and Firasat were involved in this murder. The clerks had embezzled Rs 20 crore from the department.
A person named Mahipal had sought information about this through RTI. The clerks suspected that Pushpendra, a computer operator working in the department, must have informed Mahipal about the embezzlement. That is why he was murdered. The case was heard in the court of ADJ 3 Saroj Kumar Yadav.
