India Canada Row: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who made baseless allegations against India over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, is surrounded in his own country. An opposition leader has accused Trudeau of using the Niger massacre to distract from other disputes.
He has asked the government to cancel the posthumous citizenship of the Khalistani militant to correct the previous administrative mistake. People's Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier said in a post on Twitter that the Khalistani at the center of the entire controversy is not Canadian. Was a foreign terrorist. Nijjar used fake documents several times to seek asylum in Canada. He somehow got citizenship in 2007.
'An attempt to divert attention'
“If the allegations made by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Liberal government are true that Indian diplomats were involved in criminal activities on our soil, then it is a serious matter,” he said. However, no evidence has been provided yet. Trudeau is clearly using this case to divert attention from other controversies.
Here, Canadian security expert Joe Adam George said that the unfortunate crisis had started long before the expulsion of the diplomats. It had started long ago. The RCMP have spent many years investigating various criminal activities in Canada. He also said that since there is no direct threat to the West from the Khalistan movement, he is not giving importance to this matter.
India gave a strong reaction
It is noteworthy that Nijjar was murdered in June 2023. India on Monday decided to recall its diplomats and expel Canadian diplomats in response to the Canadian government's attempt to prosecute the Indian High Commissioner and other officials in connection with its investigation into the case. Canada also announced the expulsion of six Indian diplomats.
It is noteworthy that before this, India-Canada relations had reached its worst level when Canada had tried to involve the Indian High Commissioner in the investigation of Nijjar's murder. After this, India reacted strongly and not only recalled its diplomats from Canada, but also expelled the Canadian High Commissioner from India.
