Nigeria football team stuck at Libyan airport for 16 hours

But the Libyan Football Association did not allow the team to leave the airport for any reason. The airport authorities detained the entire team in the airport for 16 hours. The players had neither phone service nor food. The players were forced to sleep on chairs inside the airport. The players had to cover a distance of 250 kilometers from the airport to reach the match venue. The players were told that the plane could not land due to its large size. Therefore the entire flight was diverted to Al Abarak Airport. There he was told that the plane was being refueled and would soon take off. Due to no WiFi, players could not even contact their Nigerian Football Association. The Libyan Football Federation said the flight was not diverted intentionally. Problems arose due to air traffic and security checks.
