Nifty misses 25,000 level, small cap stocks rise for the second consecutive day

After opening lower following the fall in global markets, Indian stock market benchmark indices closed with losses for the second consecutive day today due to weak performance of some major companies and fears of weak results in the times to come.

Nifty lost the 25,000 level. However, smallcap stocks remained on the rise for the second consecutive day. Despite the 0.19 percent fall in the Sensex on Tuesday, the small-cap index rose by 1.05 percent, after which the rise in small-cap stocks continued today, as against the fall of 318 points in the Sensex, the small-cap index rose by 310 points. There was progress. As a result, the BSE Small Cap index now closed just 252 points away from its all-time high of 57,728. Mid-cap stocks saw a general uptick yesterday, but today the index declined, but small-cap stocks gained. Meanwhile, stocks like Mahindra & Mahindra and Infosys closed with gains, while HDFC Bank and Reliance Industries closed with gains.

After initially opening 174 points lower, Sensex hit an intra-day high of 81,932 and low of 81,358. In this way, after a total fluctuation of 574 points, the Sensex fell by 318 points or 0.39 percent and closed at 81,501. Nifty also made an intraday high of 25,093 and low of 24,908 after opening down 49 points and closed at 24,971, down 86 points or 0.34 per cent after opening down a total of 185 points. In this way Nifty lost the level of 25,000. Broader markets saw mixed activity. The BSE mid-cap index fell 49 points or 0.10 per cent to 48,644, while the small-cap index rose 178 points or 0.31 per cent to 57,403. BSE SME IPO index also saw marginal gains today and closed at 1,02,475, up 310 points or 0.30 per cent.

BSE M cap fell marginally to Rs. 463.29 lakh crore or $5.51 trillion, which was yesterday's Rs. to Rs 463.86 lakh crore. There seems to be a shortfall of Rs 57,000 crore. Only five out of 30 Sensex stocks closed with gains, while 16 out of 50 Nifty stocks closed with gains. Of the 14 sector indices on Nifty, only three registered gains and one closed flat.
