Mumbai: Nifty touched 25100 level today on the back of funds in IT-software services, technology stocks and pharmaceutical stocks. Small, midcap stocks also witnessed record gains on hopes that monsoon will be successful this year, agriculture, rural economy will register strong growth and systematic investment plan (SIP) investment flow will continue in mutual funds. IT stocks including Wipro, Infosys, HCL Technology, TCS, Tech Mahindra and Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, JSW Steel gained and Sensex also crossed the 82000 level intra-day with a jump of 327.50 points. It had reached 82039.26. FMCG, Auto, Banking stocks including Maruti Suzuki, Nestle India, State Bank of India, Axis Bank, UltraTech Cement, Asian Paints, UltraTech Cement, Kotak Mahindra Bank, ITC, Tata Steel, Titan Company etc. witnessed sharp selling. It hit a low of 81578.32 and finally closed at 81785.56, up 73.80 points. While the Nifty 50 spot rose 111.85 points intra-day to reach 25129.60 and finally closed at 25052.35, up 34.60 points.

LTI Mindtree Rs 378.20 up to Rs 6127.50, Datamatics Global Rs 31.50 up to Rs 704.70, Proteus eGovern Rs 73.95 up to Rs 2100.55, L&T Technology Rs 196 up to Rs 5675, Wipro Rs 17.50 up to Rs 534.60, Newgen Software Rs 29.60 up to Rs 1062.45, Genesis International Rs 20 up to Rs 746.55, Coforge Rs 10 up to Rs 6240, Birla Soft Rs 14.50 up to Rs 661.15, Infosys Rs 39.05 up to Rs 1939.20, Persistent Rs 86.55 up to Rs 4996.30, HCL Technology Rs 5.50 up to Rs 1716.25, TCS rose by Rs 5.50 to Rs 1716.25. rose by Rs 14.40 to Rs 4508.65. BSE IT index rose by 530.50 points to close at 43,218.64.

Healthcare-pharmaceutical stocks also saw a rise in funds today. Reports of the pandemic increasing across the country with the monsoon and the continued increase in demand for medicines had supported the funds in anticipation of better results from auto companies. Vimta Labs closed at Rs 48.40 up at Rs 605.05, Ami Organics closed at Rs 79.45 up at Rs 1366.15, Granules India closed at Rs 35 up at Rs 708.90, Ajanta Pharma closed at Rs 116.75 up at Rs 3087.50, Glenmark Life closed at Rs 31.10 up at Rs 1050, Divi's Lab closed at Rs 130.25 up at Rs 5030, Zydus Life closed at Rs 24.20 up at Rs 1138.05, Torrent Pharma closed at Rs 69.65 up at Rs 3435, Pfizer closed at Rs 92.20 up at Rs 5955, Sun Pharma closed at Rs 24.95 up at Rs 1813.95, Biocon closed at Rs 4.85 up at Rs 357.55, Alkem Lab closed at Rs 80.65 up at Rs 5971.35, Cipla rose Rs 21.65 to Rs 1619.25. BSE Healthcare index rose 387.44 points to close at 42737.87.
Record gain in stocks: BSE Small Cap Index 56416, Mid Cap, Mid Cap Index at record high
Small, midcap stocks witnessed record gains today. Local funds, institutional investors, high net worth investors continued to buy heavily in stocks of their choice. Of course, the statement by SEBI cautioning investors about ongoing operations in SME stocks led to a sell-off in penny stocks. The BSE Small Cap index hit a new record high of 56,416.31 intra-day and finally closed 68.52 points lower at 5,6005.65. While the BSE Mid Cap index made a new high of 49099.45 and finally closed 21.84 points higher at 48942.13. Out of the total 4056 stocks traded on BSE today, the number of declining stocks was 2185 and the number of rising stocks was 1786.
Selling in banking, FMCG stocks: Axis, State Bank fall: Bikaji Foods, ADF, Nestle fall
Overall profit booking was seen in banking-finance stocks today. Axis Bank fell Rs 9.65 to Rs 1170.70, Federal Bank fell Rs 1.45 to Rs 195.40, State Bank of India fell Rs 5.85 to Rs 809.30, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell Rs 12.65 to Rs 1790.80, Bank of Baroda fell Rs 1.10 to Rs 250. While Indusind Bank rose Rs 30.05 to Rs 1413.60. The BSE Bankex index closed 186.45 points down at 58187.22. Funds also sold FMCG stocks. Associate Alcohol fell by Rs 49.30 to Rs 872.40, Bikaji Foods fell by Rs 24.45 to Rs 829.85, ADF Foods fell by Rs 6.60 to Rs 263.05, Varun Beverages fell by Rs 37.85 to Rs 1527.70, Rs 25.75 to Rs 2495, Britannia fell by Rs 61.40 to Rs 5700.65.
FPIs sold shares worth Rs 1,347 crore in cash: DIIs bought shares worth Rs 439 crore
FPIs-Foreign Portfolio Investors and FIIs made net sales of Rs 1347.53 crore in cash today-Wednesday. Total sales of Rs 14,883.36 crore were made against total purchases of Rs 13,535.83 crore. While DIIs-Domestic Institutional Investors made net purchases of Rs 439.35 crore today. Total sales of Rs 12,307.22 crore were made against total purchases of Rs 12,746.57 crore.
