Nicolas Maduro has been declared the winner of the presidential election held in Venezuela on Sunday. However, opposition leaders are strongly opposing the election results. The President of the National Electoral Council has said that Maduro has received 51 percent of the votes. While opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez has said that 44 percent of the votes have been cast. He further said that this election result is based on votes cast at 80 percent of the polling stations. The Election Commission has not yet released the official voting data of 30,000 polling stations. Due to which the opposition could not confirm the result.
Nicolas Maduro faces a big challenge
In this election, Venezuela's current President Nicolas Maduro faced strong opposition. During the election campaign, the opposition said that they would overcome the public financial crisis of the last decade. Due to the economic crisis in Venezuela, about 70 lakh people are leaving the country and moving to other countries. The opposition ran against Maduro under the leadership of 74-year-old Edmundo Gonzalez Eurasia. However, he could not defeat Maduro, who has been in power for the last 11 years.
