US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said that the US has always supported better representation of developing countries, including India, in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). The US has long supported permanent membership in the United Nations Security Council for India, Japan and Germany.
Addressing the Future Summit at the 79th United Nations General Assembly, Blinken said that the United Nations Security Council needs reform. The US believes that this reform should include two permanent seats for Africa, a rotational seat for small island developing countries, and permanent representation for Latin America and the Caribbean. We have long supported India, Japan, and Germany. Blinken said that the US also supports the immediate start of negotiations to reform the UNSC. The US is committed to adapting the UN system to the world in a way that reflects current and future realities.
