New underpass and flyover will be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore, NHAI gives green signal

A big and relief news is coming for lakhs of passengers traveling daily between the national capital Delhi and cyber city Gurgaon. Commuters who often face severe traffic jams and long queues during peak hours are now going to get permanent relief from this problem. The National Highways Authority of India i.e. NHAI has given official approval to a large and ambitious infrastructure project worth about Rs 300 crore to decongest congestion points in and around the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Under this new project, many modern underpasses, flyovers and slip roads will be constructed, which will make vehicular movement completely signal-free. As soon as this news has come, there has been a wave of happiness among those office going employees, businessmen and common citizens who are stuck in traffic for hours on this route every day, and now they have hope of a smooth and fast journey.

What is the outline and main points of this 300 crore mega infrastructure project?

This new master plan prepared by NHAI to reduce the increasing traffic pressure between Delhi and Gurgaon has included all the major intersections and junctions where there is maximum traffic jam. A huge amount of around Rs 300 crore will be spent under this project, which will eliminate traffic bottlenecks on this entire stretch through engineering marvels. Highlights of the scheme include multi-level flyovers and modern designed underpasses to separate heavy vehicles and local traffic at major intersections. Apart from this, creating safe pathways for pedestrians and resurfacing of roads will also be an important part of this project. This project, prepared under the supervision of the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, aims to make this busiest route of Delhi-NCR completely bottleneck-free, so that the travel time can be drastically reduced.

How will this initiative of NHAI change the picture of Delhi-Gurgaon route?

If we look at the current situation, people traveling from Delhi to Gurgaon and from Gurgaon to Delhi have to crawl for hours every morning and evening. In the old areas around Ambience Mall, Shankar Chowk, Rajiv Chowk and Toll Plaza, the traffic pressure increases to such an extent that even a small accident or vehicle breakdown leads to a mile-long traffic jam. After this new project of NHAI comes on the ground, the stoppage of vehicles at all these hotspots will be negligible. With the construction of the underpass, the path of vehicles taking U-turn and the traffic going straight will be separated, which will automatically eliminate the problem of cross-cutting traffic. Along with this, environment and pollution control has also been kept in mind in this project, because when the vehicles get stuck less in the jam, there will be a significant reduction in carbon emissions, which will prove to be a positive step for the deteriorating environment of NCR.

Local commuters and economy are going to get tremendous boost

This historic road project will benefit not only the working people traveling daily but also the commercial activities of the entire NCR. Delhi and Gurgaon are the two largest corporate and economic hubs of the country, where lakhs of commercial vehicles, cabs and private vehicles move every day. Due to traffic jam, not only precious time of people is wasted but there is also huge wastage of fuel which has a direct impact on the economy. After the completion of these new flyovers and underpasses to be built at a cost of Rs 300 crore, the freight and logistics sector will also get a new impetus. Local traders and industrial organizations have wholeheartedly welcomed this decision of NHAI and have expressed hope that this project will be completed within the stipulated time frame so that the public can get rid of this problem of traffic jam as soon as possible.

Traffic management during construction work and future challenges

Starting such major construction works on any major highway or expressway is a big challenge in itself, because the traffic has to flow smoothly even during the work. NHAI and the local traffic police department are jointly preparing a detailed diversion plan so that the public faces minimum inconvenience during the construction work. Alternative routes are being identified and special timings may be fixed for movement of heavy vehicles. Officials say that the construction work will be completed rapidly using state-of-the-art technologies and pre-cast structures so that people do not have to face problems for a long time. Ultimately, this project will make the distance between Delhi and Gurgaon easier and the journey between the two cities will become pleasant and stress-free.
