Border Gavaskar Trophy : Australia Cricket Board has announced the summer schedule for 2024-25. The Australian men's team will play ODI and T20 series against Pakistan later this year, while the 5-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played against India. This is the first time in the history of Border-Gavaskar Trophy that 5 Test matches will be played between India and Australia. Before this, usually 4 matches were played between the two teams.
Second test will be day-night
The first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start from November 22 at the Perth Stadium in Perth. The only Indian team to defeat Australia in consecutive Test series in Australia will begin its tour in Perth for the first time. On the previous two occasions, the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy was played at the Adelaide Oval. The second test will be played in Adelaide from 6 to 10 December, which will be a day-night test.
No change in the venues of Boxing Day Test and New Year Test
The third Test is scheduled to start from December 14 at Gabba, Brisbane. There has been no change in the venues of the Boxing Day Test and New Year Test. This match will be played at MCG in Melbourne and SCG in Sydney. A big gap has been kept between the first and second Test as the BCCI reportedly wants to play practice matches with the pink ball to get the players used to it before the Adelaide Test. The fourth Test of the tournament will be played in Melbourne from 26 to 30 December. Also, the last test of Border-Gavaskar Trophy will be played in Sydney from 3rd to 7th January.
It will not be easy to beat Australia at home
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy has been played between India and Australia 16 times so far. Out of these, the Indian team has won the trophy 10 times and Australia 5 times. The trophy played in the year 2003-04 was drawn 1-1. The Indian team has so far visited Australia 7 times for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Meanwhile, the Australian team has won 4 times and India has won 2 times. Whereas 1 series is a draw. In such a situation, it will not be easy for the Indian team to defeat Australia at home. However, the good thing is that India has won the last 2 Border-Gavaskar series played in Australia (2018-19, 2020-21). Whereas 2022-23 was played in India and India won it 2-1.
