Maharashtra Assembly Election 2024 Date: The Central Election Commission surprised people by not announcing the Maharashtra Assembly elections along with the Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir elections on August 16. But now it is almost certain that the Maharashtra Assembly elections will be held only after Diwali. On the other hand, rumours have intensified in the political corridors that after the term of the Assembly ends on November 26, President's rule may be imposed for some time and elections may be held in December itself.
Possibility of imposition of President's rule in Maharashtra
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, while announcing the Haryana elections, had said that the Election Commission has the authority to hold elections within six months of the completion of the term of the assembly. This statement is being interpreted to mean that perhaps the date for the Maharashtra assembly is today. The deadline of November 26 will be allowed to expire. After this, President's rule will be imposed for some time. Meanwhile, the dates for the assembly elections in Jharkhand are getting closer, so it is possible that both Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections will be held by the end of December.
Reasons for delay in elections in Maharashtra
The Election Commission had cited reasons including monsoon, Ganpati and Diwali and Shraddhapaksha for holding elections in Maharashtra. On the other hand, it has been announced that the counting of votes for Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections will be held on October 4. It is believed that the dates of Maharashtra assembly elections can be announced only after the formation of a new government in Haryana. In such a situation, speculations of elections being held in the month of December have intensified.
The focus of the Mahayuti is the Ladli Behan scheme
Political discussions After the defeat of BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP in the elections, the ruling party Mahayuti is largely dependent on the Ladli Behan Yojana. Under this scheme, women have started depositing Rs 1500 per month in the bank. CM Shinde has promised that if his government comes to power again, this amount will be increased from 1500 to Rs 3000 per month. A similar Ladli Behan Yojana in Madhya Pradesh has benefited the BJP in successive elections and the Shinde government hopes to replicate it in Maharashtra as well.
The plan is yet to be implemented properly
However, the hasty implementation of the scheme has many problems. The applications of many eligible women are still being processed. The money of this scheme could not be deposited in the accounts of many women due to pending verification as their bank accounts are not linked to Aadhaar. The Shinde government has increased pressure on the officials of all municipalities, municipal corporations and district councils to enroll as many women as possible in the scheme. However, it may take some time to remove the remaining flaws in the implementation of the scheme and women have been receiving several installments continuously and are confident that the scheme will continue and the money will keep flowing. The government estimates that it will take two to three months for the Ladki Behen Yojana to get the desired political mileage.
