Cabinet spokesperson Minister Vijitha Herath today gave clarification to journalists on the public discussion about printing new currency after the presidential elections in Sri Lanka. He has said that neither government has printed currency. Nor has any loan been taken from foreign institutions.
Denying reports of the new government printing money, Cabinet spokesperson Minister Vijitha Herath today held the weekly briefing to announce cabinet decisions, according to Sri Lankan newspaper Daily Mirror. He said that if the notes were printed then President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as the Finance Minister, should have signed them. No such notes signed by the President have been issued. In response to a question, he said that false news has been spread that notes worth one billion rupees were printed.
