News India Live, Digital Desk: The controversy surrounding actor Manoj Bajpayee and director Neeraj Pandey’s upcoming film ‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ has now reached a crucial point. During the hearing in Delhi High Court Netflix has officially informed that the controversial title of the film ‘Briber scholar’ will be replaced. What was the main reason for the dispute?
The controversy started when Netflix released the teaser of this film along with its upcoming projects of 2026. The Brahmin community and many social organizations raised strong objections to the addition of the word ‘Pandat’ (which is a local form of ‘Pandit’) along with ‘Ghooskhor’ (bribe taker) in the title of the film.
Blame: The petitioners said that this title tarnishes the image of a particular community and promotes caste discrimination.
FIR and legal action: FIR was registered against the makers of the film in many cities of Uttar Pradesh including Lucknow. A petition was also filed in the Delhi High Court to ban the release of the film.
Netflix’s side in court
During the hearing, Netflix’s lawyer told the court that:
Title change: The makers have taken a “conscious decision” to change the name of the film while respecting public sentiments.
Promotional Content: All the teasers and posters related to the film have already been removed from social media platforms.
Purpose of the story: Neeraj Pandey clarified that the film is a fictional police drama and its purpose was not to hurt any community but to take a dig at the system.
Delhi High Court’s decision
After Netflix assured to change the name, a bench of Justice Purushendra Kumar Kaurav disposed of the petition stalling the release of the film. Now this film will be presented to the audience with a new title, which will be announced soon.
