A fierce war has been going on between Hamas and Israel in the Middle East for more than eight months. Thousands of people demonstrated against the government in many parts of Israel on Saturday night. These people are demanding the release of hostages in Gaza and new elections in the country. On the streets of the capital Tel Aviv, famous Israeli writer David Grossman appealed to the people to come out on the streets and fight for the country.
According to reports, former Shin Bet chief Yuval Diskin called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “the worst and most unsuccessful prime minister in the history of the state.” Diskin demanded early elections. Let us tell you that Diskin served as the head of the Shin Bet intelligence agency from 2005 to 2011. People protested on King George Street outside Beit Jabotinsky, the headquarters of the ruling Likud party. Some protesters carried banners demanding early elections, while others carried banners with slogans demanding an end to the fighting in Gaza.
Clashes with police
Even after the main rally ended, many protesters remained and blocked traffic on the road. The protesters also burnt tyres. According to reports, the police personnel gathered there dispersed the crowd and arrested three protesters. Meanwhile, there was a scuffle between the protesters and the police.
Protest outside Netanyahu's residence
Meanwhile, thousands of people protested outside Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's Aza Street residence. It is being seen as the largest protest since October 7. Led by family members of those held hostage by Hamas, the protesters marched on King George Street and demanded an immediate settlement and early elections. The protesters accused Netanyahu's government of abandoning Israel's troubled northern communities, whose nearly 60,000 residents have been homeless for more than eight months due to Hezbollah shelling.
Release of hostages with conditions
Rallies were held across the country for the families of the hostages and the missing, including addresses by hostages released from Hamas captivity in November. Not all of the 116 people taken hostage by Hamas on October 7 are believed to still be in Gaza. Hamas has repeatedly said it will release the hostages only if Israel permanently ends the war. Israel has rejected this demand of Hamas. Let us tell you that on October 7, Hamas terrorists attacked southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 people hostage.
