Kathmandu, 18 November (HS). Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has asked a Chinese company to complete the road construction work before his visit to China. He has warned the Chinese company of canceling the tender if it does not complete the work. Even after five years, the construction work of Narayanghat-Butwal road section of East-West Highway, one of the busiest highways of Nepal, has not been completed even 50 percent. During the meeting with the public representatives of this area on Monday, the Prime Minister said that if the construction work of this road section is not started again till the month of December, then the tender of the company will be canceled and it will be blacklisted.

The tender for the construction of Narayanghat Butwal road section was given to the Chinese government company China State Construction Corporation in the year 2019 itself. Even after five years of awarding the tender, only 45 percent of the road construction work has been completed, whereas it is mentioned in the agreement to complete it in two years. The public representatives of that area, who came to complain about the stoppage of construction work, said that people have been facing a lot of problems for the last five years.

The Prime Minister told the local public representatives that the government has sent warning letters to the Chinese company twice. If the construction work is not resumed by the month of December, then this tender will be canceled in January and the Chinese company will be blacklisted forever. Prime Minister Oli said that last year itself, for the first time, a letter was sent to this Chinese company warning it of canceling the tender. The second letter has been sent in the month of October, but there has been no hearing on it either. Oli said that this is the last opportunity. If the construction work does not start this time, the tender will be cancelled.
