Kathmandu, September 17 (HS). The tension between Nepal's Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah has increased so much that its effect is now visible in public programs as well. While the Mayor of Kathmandu was absent from the formal function of the Nepal government, in response to this, the Prime Minister has decided not to attend the program organized by Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation.

From the President, Vice President to the Prime Minister and almost all the ministers of his cabinet attended the official ceremony of Indra Yatra, traditionally celebrated in Kathmandu on Tuesday. In this ceremony held at Vasantpur Durbar Square, it is the responsibility of the Mayor of Kathmandu to welcome all the VIPs. This tradition has been going on for decades but for the last few days, due to many different reasons, there has been a tussle between Prime Minister Oli and Mayor Co.

This is why today when the President, Vice President and Prime Minister arrived at Vasantpur Durbar Square for the Indra Yatra ceremony, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol was present to welcome them instead of Mayor Balendra. Not only this, the supporters of the Mayor were wearing T-shirts with his picture printed on them, which was revealing their identity. As a result, all of them were kept under control by the security personnel during the event and they were not allowed to enter the venue. Kathmandu Police spokesperson Kedar Karki said that the supporters of the Mayor were taken under control to prevent any kind of untoward incident during the ceremony.

After the absence of the Mayor of Kathmandu from the function organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of the Government of Nepal, the Prime Minister has refused to attend a program organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan Corporation. The Prime Minister was invited as the chief guest in the Concert for Nation program organized on the occasion of Nepal's Constitution Day on September 19, but on Tuesday, PM Oli's secretariat informed that he will not attend the program.

Prime Minister Oli's chief advisor Vishnu Rimal has said that he will not attend this concert citing security reasons. He says that the special security squad engaged in the security of the PM has advised him not to attend this program due to the possibility of a riot against the PM. For this reason, PM Oli has decided not to attend the program.

Recently, Mayor Balendra Shah's supporters launched an unfollow campaign against KP Oli on social media and in just a few hours, Oli's Facebook page lost nearly 1 lakh followers. PM Oli is also constantly making statements against Mayor Balendra Shah.
