Kathmandu, 04 December (HS). On the invitation of Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Nepalese Army Commander-in-Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel will leave for a four-day visit to India on December 11. During the visit, General Sigdel will be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army, a long-standing tradition between the two countries.
Nepal’s Defense Ministry has sent the invitation of Commander-in-Chief General Sigdel to visit India to the Cabinet for formal approval. Formal approval for this visit will be given in the cabinet meeting to be held after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli returns from his visit to China. The military spokesperson at the Nepali Army Headquarters said that the Indian Army has been informed about General Sigdel’s visit to Delhi. The spokesperson said that the Commander-in-Chief will be conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army at a ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on December 12.
Recently on 20 November, General Dwivedi visited Nepal. During this, President Ramchandra Paudel honored him with the honorary rank of General of Nepal Army in a ceremony at the President’s Office. General Dwivedi also visited major defense bases during his tour. Apart from a courtesy meeting with President Paudel and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, he also held a meeting with General Sigdel on bilateral military relations. During his visit to Nepal, the Indian Army Chief also visited Pashupatinath Temple and Muktinath Temple and performed rituals.
