Kathmandu, September 26 (HS). As the president of the group of least developed countries (LDC), Nepal has demanded to ensure representation of LDCs in the G-20 countries conference. Along with this, there has also been a demand to increase the amount of economic assistance given to least developed countries.
Nepal's Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana said at the G-20 Foreign Ministers' meeting held in New York on Thursday that developed and large developing countries need to provide a common platform to understand the problems of least developed countries. Speaking as the President of the LDC group of least developed countries, Dr. Rana said that ensuring representation of LDC countries during the G-20 summit will provide an opportunity to discuss our problems at the global level and can also open a way to solve them.
While addressing the meeting of foreign ministers, Nepal on behalf of LDC countries urged the G-20 countries to increase the amount of assistance being given to LDC countries till now. Dr. Rana said that the corona pandemic, the effect of climate change, geopolitical tensions etc. have affected the least developed countries. He said that to overcome all this, it is necessary to increase the amount of assistance to the least developed countries.
Nepal's Foreign Minister said that least developed countries have been pushed into extreme poverty in the last two decades. He said G-20 cooperation will be crucial in achieving inclusive economic growth in LDCs, achieving Sustainable Development Goals and promoting health security globally.
