Kathmandu, September 19 (HS). Along with India, Nepal was also absent from the resolution against Israel in the United Nations (UN). This decision of the Nepal government has changed its stand on Israel. Earlier, Nepal had voted in favor of Palestine on the resolution against Israel in the United Nations, after which it was criticized a lot.

On September 19, Nepal was absent in the voting in the United Nations on the proposal that Israel should vacate Palestinian land within a year. However, this proposal was passed with 124 votes. 43 countries including India, Nepal were absent during this voting while 14 countries including America opposed this proposal.

Nepal's Foreign Ministry spokesman Amrit Rai said that the reason behind Nepal's absence in this voting is the country's neutral diplomacy. Rai said that we have friendly relations with Israel. Thousands of Nepali citizens live there for employment, so there is no question of supporting the proposal against it.

Earlier on 28 October 2023, Nepal had voted in favor of Palestine in the resolution against Israel's attack on Palestine. At that time, this decision of the government was strongly opposed. Not only this, the Israeli ambassador to Nepal met the then Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda and Foreign Minister Narayankaji Shrestha and registered his objection.

Many Nepali citizens lost their lives in the attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists on the first day. Not only this, many citizens of Nepal were also taken hostage by Hamas terrorists, who have not been released yet. Despite this heinous crime committed by Hamas, the Nepal government was criticized for voting in support of Palestine.
