Politics on Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra: Senior BJP leader and MP Narayan Rane, who is in the headlines for his statements, has commented on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Rane said, 'Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj looted Surat. Rane said this after the statement of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. In which Fadnavis accused the Congress of spreading propaganda against Shivaji and said, 'Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj never looted Surat.'
Narayan Rane was talking to the media at the BJP headquarters in Mumbai. According to the Indian Express, in response to a question, Rane said, 'I am not a historian, but whatever I have read, heard and learned from historian Babasaheb Purandare shows that Shivaji Maharaj had looted Surat.'
Fadnavis's attack on Nehru
With the fall of Chhatrapati Shivaji's statue in Malvan in Sindhudurg district, the usual tussle has started between the ruling party and the opposition. Both are accusing each other of distorting the facts. Meanwhile, Devendra Fadnavis accused the Congress of spreading misinformation. Fadnavis said, “Nehruji misrepresented Shivaji Maharaj in his book 'Discovery of India' to portray him as the looter of Surat. However, factually it was a false impression. After independence, the Congress deliberately taught that, “Shivaji looted Surat. However, Shivaji is known to have looted or attacked the treasure from the deserving people of Swarajya for the wider welfare of the nation.”
Attacking the opposition, Fadnavis said, 'The opposition is doing politics on the demolition of Shivaji's statue keeping the elections in mind. This is unfortunate. A veteran leader like Sharad Pawar should have come forward and appealed for peace, but now it is clear that the opposition is using this incident to worsen the situation.'
What is the true fact?
Talking about Shivaji Maharaj's Surat connection, it is mentioned in history books that Shivaji attacked and looted Surat twice in 1664 and 1670. At that time Surat was an economically prosperous city and a major port of the Mughals.
On the other hand, Narayan Rane has also objected to Shiv Sena (Uttar Pradesh) leader Uddhav Thackeray asking CM Eknath Shinde to leave the country. Rane said, 'Does he have the right to make such comments? Is he the President or Prime Minister of India? If I were the Chief Minister, I would have ensured strict action against Thackeray.'
Recently, an FIR was filed against Narayan Rane's son and MLA Nitesh Rane for making communal remarks in rallies in Pune and Ahmednagar. When Narayan Rane was questioned about this, Rane said, 'I spoke to Nitesh and explained to him not to bring religion into it. Rather, if there is an issue, it should be limited to a particular person.'
It is worth noting that during a speech, Nitesh Rane had publicly threatened to kill people of the Muslim community. Later he also said that he stands by his statement.
