Lok Sabha Elections 2024: India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru won the Lok Sabha elections thrice from Phulpur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Freedom fighter and politician Vijayalakshmi Pandit was also successful in reaching Parliament twice on Congress ticket from here. But the surprising thing is that from 1952 to 1967, Congress never lost any election, from 1989 till today Congress has not been able to win any election.

In 2014, when Keshav Prasad Maurya won the Lok Sabha elections, BJP won in Phulpur for the first time, but in 2017, when BJP government was formed in Uttar Pradesh, Keshav Prasad Maurya became the Deputy CM in the state government. Then in the by-election held on this seat, SP defeated BJP. But in 2019, BJP again captured this seat. Atiq Ahmed also won the election from this seat in 2004.

Who is the candidate?

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, BJP candidate Kesari Devi Patel defeated SP candidate Pandhari Yadav by more than 1.70 lakh votes. This time BJP has canceled the ticket of Kesari Devi Patel and given it to Phulpur MLA Praveen Patel.

Praveen Patel's father Mahendra Pratap Patel was also an MLA several times. His father had won the MLA election from Jhunsi assembly constituency on Congress ticket in 1984, 1989 and 1991. Praveen Patel became MLA from Phulpur in 2007 on BSP ticket. Later he won the 2017 and 2022 assembly elections on BJP ticket.

SP has given ticket to party secretary Amarnath Maurya from Phulpur, Uttar Pradesh. Amarnath Maurya stayed in BSP for a long time and after that he also stayed in BJP. BSP has fielded senior leader Jagannath Pal from here. Jagannath Pal has held many positions in BSP.

Pallavi Patel, who is in alliance with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi's party, has given ticket to Mahima Patel from here.

Dominance of Patel candidates

Since Kamal Bahuguna won the elections in 1977, backward caste candidates have dominated here. Apart from Atiq Ahmed in 2004 and Kapil Muni Karwariya in 2009, only backward caste candidates have won from here since 1977. In these too, candidates from Patel community have won the elections eight times.

Dreams are getting stronger on Phulpur seat also

Samajwadi Party has won here continuously from 1996 to 2004. Samajwadi Party's winning streak was broken in 2009 by BSP candidate Kapil Muni Karwariya. In 2009, Karwariya defeated SP candidate Shyama Charan Gupta by a slim margin of 15,000 votes.
