India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed out on defending his title at the Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj Chopra missed out on winning the gold medal in a thrilling final in Paris on the night of August 8. Neeraj created history by winning the silver medal with a throw of 89.54 meters. In doing so, he became only the fourth Indian athlete to win two Olympic medals and the first athlete to do so in athletics. Neeraj's arch rival Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic record with an Olympic record throw and won the gold medal. Arshad wrote his name on the gold with a tremendous throw of 92.97 meters.
Foul in the first, did wonders in the second
Neeraj, who started well in every event, had a slight setback this time. His first throw was fouled because his right foot moved slightly off the line when he fell in the follow-through after throwing the javelin. Although his throw was more than 86 meters, it was not considered. Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's first throw was also fouled but in the next throw, Arshad won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 meters. With this, he also set a new Olympic record. Neeraj also made a comeback in the next throw and finished second with 89.45 meters.
Thus, Arshad Nadeem became the first Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal in an individual event at the Olympics. With this, Pakistan has succeeded in winning an Olympic medal after 32 years. Earlier, Pakistan had won a bronze medal in men's hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He became only the third player to win an individual medal for Pakistan at the Olympics.
Fourth Indian to win two Olympic medals
With this, Neeraj has become the fourth Indian athlete to win two medals at the Olympics. In the Tokyo Olympic Games held three years ago, Neeraj won gold with a throw of 87.58 meters. With this, Neeraj Chopra became the second Indian to win an Olympic gold medal and the first athlete to win a medal in athletics. In that final, Neeraj overtook Julian Weber, Jacob Weidlach and Johannes Vetter, who were already considered favorites to win the competition. After this, Neeraj had earlier won the silver medal at the World Championships 2022. After this he became the first Indian to win the Diamond League title and after this he created history by winning the gold medal at the World Championships in 2023.
Pakistani athlete sets world record!
Pakistani athlete Arshad Nadeem achieved a feat in the Paris Olympics that perhaps no one had expected. Arshad, who looked nervous in his first attempt in the javelin throw final, threw the javelin in such a way in the second attempt that all the records started breaking one after the other. Arshad broke the Olympic record by crossing the mark of 92.97 meters.
