New Delhi, 9 November (Hindustan Reporter). India's javelin throw star Neeraj Chopra will join a training group led by triple Olympic champion Jan Zelezny this winter, the Czech Athletics Federation (CAS) said on Friday.
CAS said Chopra, the 26-year-old Olympic champion in Tokyo in 2021 and silver medalist in Paris this year, had asked Czech legend Zelezny to coach him several weeks ago.
“It made me happy because I saw him as a great talent many years ago at the beginning of his career,” Zelezny said on the CAS website.
Zelezny, 58, who won Olympic gold in Barcelona in 1992, Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney in 2000 and silver in Seoul in 1988, said he would lead the group for only the next two years.
He said, “I am starting a collaboration with Chopra. “While we are getting to know each other from a distance, we will begin in person at a traditional winter camp in South Africa.”
However, Tokyo silver medalist Jacob Vadlej of Czech Republic is not happy with Chopra's arrival. CAS said that he has decided to leave the group after almost 14 years.
