India had high hopes from Neeraj Chopra at the Paris Olympics 2024. He performed well at the Tokyo Olympics and won the gold medal, but the javelin throw final in Paris was tough. Neeraj's opponent, Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan, set an Olympic record with a massive throw of 92.97m and won the gold medal. In response, Neeraj made a breast throw of 89.45m in 6 attempts and created history by winning the silver medal.
Thus he became only the fourth Indian athlete to win two Olympic medals and the first to do so in athletics. Despite this, he looked dissatisfied after the match and raised an alarm for the upcoming Olympics in the US.
What did Neeraj say after winning silver?
Neeraj Chopra gave an interview after winning silver. During this, he expressed his happiness by holding the medal and the tricolor in his hands. However, it is clear from his face and words that he is not satisfied with it. Neeraj admitted that the competition in the final was very tough. He said after the match that he has been suffering from injury for a long time and is not able to play as per the requirement. He was not able to work properly on the errors.
Challenged Arshad Nadeem
Regarding the final, Neeraj said that despite Arshad's record throw, he was confident that he would surpass him. However, he has never been able to throw 90 meters, but this time he had a lot of enthusiasm, but he failed to do so. Praising Arshad, he said that he has blown the trumpet for the next Olympics and said that the game is not over yet and there is still a lot left. In such a situation, it can be said that he has challenged Arshad Nadeem.
Neeraj made many records
Even though Neeraj could not win gold, he made many records in his name. 26-year-old Neeraj has become the first Indian athlete to win two medals in athletics at the Olympics. He is also the first Indian to win 2 Olympic and 2 World Championship medals in athletics. Apart from this, he also became the first Asian athlete to win two Olympic medals in javelin throw. Not only this, he is the fourth Indian athlete to win a medal in the second consecutive Olympics. Apart from Neeraj, only Sushil Kumar (2008, 2012), PV Sindhu (2016, 2020) and Manu Bhaker (both 2024) have achieved such a feat.
