Need to prepare institutional framework for sustainable transition: Development Commissioner

Ranchi, 15 February (HS). Global perspective and best practices related to just transition were discussed on Thursday on the second day of the International Conference Sustainable Just Transition for Future Ready, Jharkhand. Presiding over the closing ceremony, Development Commissioner Avinash Kumar described energy transition as essential for sustainable and green development and said that in this process it is necessary to strike a balance between social aspirations, environmental protection and economic development. He stressed the need to create an institutional framework related to sustainable transition.

On this occasion, Principal Secretary Health Department Ajay Kumar Singh said that to promote green economy, steps like inclusion of tribal knowledge in sustainability and inclusivity measures, capacity building of communities and other stakeholders etc. will be helpful in making it effective. Task Force Chairman AK Rastogi said that all the stakeholders have emphasized on creating a special transition fund to create an institutional framework for financing and an ecosystem related to clean energy, so that the transition process can be facilitated.

Many IAS officers expressed their views in the conference. During this, representatives of many institutions including UNDP India, WRI India, World Bank, International Labor Organization, CCL, SAIL, NTPC, SEED were present.
