Lahore: When Nawaz Sharif, the architect of the war with India and three-time Prime Minister of Pakistan, returned home in October last year, there were speculations that he might once again accept the post of Prime Minister but it did not happen. By handing over the crown to his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif, he kept it for himself and was not ready to hold office in any government or even in his own party.
Actually, after the Panama Papers were leaked, he was accused of corruption. In 2017, the Supreme Court of Pakistan disqualified him as Prime Minister and party president, so he left both posts. After this, he was living in exile in England on the pretext of health to get rid of his punishment.
Later the country's federal court acquitted him and returned home. And became active in politics again from October itself. He made his daughter the Chief Minister of Punjab. Younger brother (Shahbaz) was made the Prime Minister.
Punjab Party President Rana Sannullah said in a press conference at the PLNL meeting in Lahore that the decision to make Nawaz Sharif the party president again was taken in the party meeting on Friday. He is on a five-day visit to China. On his return from there he will be asked to take over as party president.
It is also said that Nawaz Sharif has the full support of the army in Pakistan. It is well known that a person who does not have the support of the army in Pakistan cannot occupy a high position and even if he does, he cannot survive. It is also possible that he may make his younger brother the Deputy Prime Minister and become the Prime Minister himself. However, right now Shahbaz is going as per his words.
