Navy helicopters and ships search for missing child in boat accident

MUMBAI – The search for a seven-year-old boy missing in a boat accident in Mumbai that killed 14 people continued for the third day by naval helicopters and ships. On the other hand, the police has also started interrogating other people including Navy personnel.

Last Wednesday evening, after the installation of a new engine in the Navy’s speed boat, when its trial was going on, the speed boat went out of control due to engine failure and collided with a ferry boat named Neelkamal, which was going from Gateway of India to Elephanta. . , 14 people died when the boat capsized while more than 100 people were rescued. In this incident, seven year old child Johan Mohammad Nisar Ahmed Pathan is still missing. The Navy continued the search for him on the third day with helicopters and ships.

According to documents obtained by the police from the Maharashtra Maritime Board, the Neelkamal boat had permission to carry a total of 90 people, including 84 tourists and six crew members. But, there were more than 100 people on board the plane at the time of the accident.

Colaba Police has registered a case under sections of the Indian Penal Code and started investigation. The Navy has also constituted its own separate inquiry board and got the investigation done.

Police took the statement of Navy personnel Karamveer Yadav who was injured in the accident. Karamveer is currently admitted in the hospital. He told the police that when the engine of the speed boat was being tested, the boat driver lost control and due to this the speed boat collided with the boat.

Police are also investigating the ferry boat and speed boat. Colaba Police has also written to the Navy and Maritime Board, seeking to know who gave permission for testing of speed boats in the passenger ferry route.
