Sub-Lieutenant Anamika B. Rajeev has created history by becoming the first woman helicopter pilot in the Navy. She graduated as a naval helicopter pilot on Friday. Lieutenant Jamyang Tsewang, the first commissioned naval officer from the Union Territory of Ladakh, also graduated as a helicopter pilot.
The passing out parade was held at INS Rajali in Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu. Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar awarded 'Golden Wings' to 21 officers, including three officers of Basic Helicopter Conversion Course (BHCC), the Defence Ministry said on Saturday. Three officers of Basic Conversion Course (BCC) have completed the first phase of training. These pilots graduated after 22 weeks of training at Naval Air Squadron. Lieutenant Gurkirat Rajput was awarded the first rank in the Order of Merit in Flying. Apprentice FOCINC, Eastern Naval Command was awarded the Rolling Trophy for the pilot. Sub Lieutenant Kunte Memorial Book Award was given to Lieutenant Nitin Sharan Chaturvedi.
Lieutenant Deepak Gupta was awarded the Kerala Governor Rolling Trophy for securing first position in the overall merit order. In five decades, the Helicopter Training School has trained 849 pilots of the Indian Navy and Coast Guard as well as partner countries. The Helicopter Training School is located at INS Rajali, Arakkonam. The pilots will be deployed to various front-line operational units of the Navy where they will undertake diverse missions such as reconnaissance, surveillance, search and rescue and anti-piracy. BHCC officers who complete the first phase of training will undergo second phase training at the Helicopter Training School.
