Durga Puja festival is celebrated to mark the victory of Durga over the demon Mahishasura after the war. When Mahishasura created havoc on the earth because Brahma had blessed him with eternal life. Then the three gods, Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh, combined all their powers to create this Durga Shakti, which killed Mahishasura after a nine-day war. The festival of Navratri is celebrated in different forms every year in every state of India. It is celebrated with devotion in North India. Dussehra in autumn is a holy and auspicious festival celebrated at the beginning of the auspicious aspect of Assu month before Diwali. According to Hindu scriptures, Narate is celebrated twice a year, of which Sharad Narate is celebrated in the autumn after the monsoon in September–October (month of Asu). Ikonox is celebrated in March-April (month of Chet). In this, worship is done for nine days and the idols are immersed on the tenth day. Thus, in almost every house in the lower areas of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, girls decorate Durga in the form of clay on the wall. On the tenth day, Dussehra is celebrated as the 'victory of good over evil'. Nine forms of Durga are worshiped for nine days because Durga fought with Mahishasura for nine days and won. These nine forms are Shailputri, Brahmacharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandamata, Katyayini, Kalratri, Mahagauri and Siddhadatri. This festival is also celebrated by other communities.

Havan Yagya performed with devotion

To celebrate the victory of Maa Durga over Mahishasura, devotees observe a fast for nine days, keep vigil of Maa Durga at night and recite Durga Saptashati. Yagya-havan is performed according to devotion. This festival also symbolizes the coming home of the harvest. Navratri is celebrated twice a year, once in the month of Chet and the other in the month of Assu.
